Porcelain is a beautiful medium, silky with an elegant simplicity. It sets off perfectly the delicate images cast from actual leaves and plants.
Discovering a new way to use the medium excites the imagination. At one point, I became fascinated with the idea of casting nature into high quality off-white porcelain so it would retain the original texture of the branches with leaves, flowers and shells. I experimented until I created an image that speaks for itself. The resolution is so true that people wonder if I fired the leaves right into the clay. It is a process that took me three years to develop. The next challenge begins as I manipulate glazes to apply the protective finish while retaining, even exaggerating the intricate features.
