Joan Richardson does what she loves..."Playing with Metal" - welding steel into whimsical yet powerful sculptures.
About five years ago Joan took a basic welding course and then a welding sculpture class at the Springfield Technical Center. After a third welding course she decided to take a risk and followed her heart. The results have been gratifying to both Joan and people who view her work.
The wonderful sense of joy, translated into steel sculptures almost always brings smiles to young and old. Much of the inspiration for these sculptures come from underwater photography.
Her current work involves large garden art such as rock and metal spiders, large flying fish, giant pink Flamingoes, neon green praying mantises and other "fun stuff" for yard and garden.
Joan's work has been on display at AVA gallery in Lebanon, Southern Vermont Art Center in Manchester and the Chaffee Gallery in Rutland .
