Christopher Cleary, founder & head designer at On the Rocks, began exploring stone as a child. He discovered his talent for sand carving while working for his father's stone business. There, he was fortunate to have access to a vast array of materials and tools, and soon began experimenting with sand carving.
His subject matter includes abstract and freestanding sculpture, fountains, birdbaths, and garden stones. He also specializes in interior
stone art such as wall hangings, lamps, and slate ornaments. The ornaments are made using reclaimed roofing slate - most are more than 100 years old! Chris' objective is to create objects of beauty and inspiration, while demonstrating that stone can enhance the character of any environment.
Chris is a member of the Vermont Hand Crafters and the Vermont Crafts Council. His work has been displayed in various art shows and galleries throughout Vermont, as well as in private collections on three continents.
